CMSS: Public Lecture on Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism
The Centre for Muslim States and Societies (CMSS) is pleased to host a public lecture by
Professor Kumar Ramakrishna, Dean of S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies on
Terrorism, Counter-Terrorism: Past, Present and Future,
followed by the launch of
Adjunct Professor Amin Saikal’s new book,
How to Lose a War: the Story of American’s Intervention in Afghanistan (Yale University Press).
Speakers
Kumar Ramakrishna is Professor of National Security Studies, Provost’s Chair in National Security Studies, Dean of the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), as well as Research Adviser to the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research, at RSIS. Prior to his current appointments, he was Head, International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research (2020-2022), Head, the Centre of Excellence for National Security (2006-2015) and Head, National Security Studies Programme (2016 to 2020). He was also Associate Dean for Policy Studies (2020 to 2022).
Amin Saikal is an Adjunct Professor of Social Sciences at the Centre for Muslim States and Societies, The University of Western Australia; Emeritus Professor of Middle Eastern and Central Asian Studies at the Australian National University; and Adjunct Senior Fellow at S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore).
He is the author of many books, most recently including How to Lose a War: The Story of America’s Intervention in Afghanistan (Yale University Press, 2024); Iran Rising: The Survival and Future of the Islamic Republic (Princeton University Press, 2021); and Islam Beyond Borders: The Umma in World Politics (Cambridge University Press, 2019, co-author).
