KEVIN Rudd has deplored Israel's use of violence in interdicting the Gaza flotilla and called on Jerusalem to lift its blockade. Barely a week after it announced the expulsion of an Israeli diplomat following the misuse of Australian passports, the Rudd government was yesterday again at odds with Israel. |

THE Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu is among international human rights leaders who have condemned Australia for its impending deportation of a Muslim cleric, whose battle will draw 1000 protesters to Canberra in a convoy of buses tomorrow."In South Africa we used to have detention without trial," says Bishop Tutu. THE Rudd government is pressing ahead with plans to develop Islamic finance in Australia to help position the nation as a leading global financial services hub.Assistant Treasurer Nick Sherry told funds managers yesterday he would travel to the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain at the end of next month for talks on the regulation, promotion and export of Islamic finance, banking and insurance. |
